Christie Run Would Devastate Romney’s Bid
Chris Christie is once again considering jumping into the Republican field, which is extremely bad news for moderate Mitt Romney who is leading in the polls. It’s a move that will definitely be supported by Rick Perry who was beaten up on in the last debate.
Although Christie is not supposed to beat Romney in New Hampshire, where Mitt has a home, he will pull support away from him in droves. Far more moderates prefer Chris Christie over Mitt Romney in just about every region.
This would spell disaster for Romney but is greatly appreciated by Rick Perry who has lost a lot of momentum since he has entered the debates. This move would essentially split the moderate vote and help Perry pick back up momentum as the favorite of the ultra conservative wing.
Christie already has huge support from the Republican party who has been begging him to throw his name into the hat. This would disrupt Romney’s strategy for winning early primaries. It was predicted that Rick Perry would win Iowa and South Carolina, while Mitt Romney would take New Hampshire and Nevada before fighting it out in Florida.
With Chris Christie in the race, winning Florida doesn’t look nearly as good for Mitt. The candidate that would welcome Christie’s entrance is Rick Perry, who could collect all the radical right votes and have the other votes split. Rick Perry needs this to help him through the tough time he is facing from the debates and Mitt Romney. Mitt is praying that Chris Christie does not enter the race.
