Legendary country music star George Jones died earlier today in Nashville at the age of 81. He was arguable the biggest country music legend of them all. Jones was in the middle of his goodbye tour when he withdrew from the road over his ongoing health issues, which included an infection to his upper respiratory system. He had been hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center since April 18. Jones had numerous hit records and memorable performances over the years.

George Jones was born on September 12, 1931 in Saratoga, Texas but was raised in Beaumont. In his early years he played music on the streets for tips, and then as a teenager he joined the Marine Corps. After he left the service, Jones began recording songs in Houston under the Starday label. His first song on the charts was “Why Baby Why” in 1955 and then he hit the top of the charts in 1959 with his No. 1 smash hit “White Lightning.” He would dominate the country music charts for several more decades.

Jones had his share of troubles, especially with his addiction to alcohol and cocaine. He was famous for missing concert dates because of his intoxication. He was married four times over the years. His third wife was Tammy Wynette, whom he shared three No. 1 hits that included “We’re Gonna Hold On,” “Near You” and Golden Ring.” Their daughter Georgette Jones has been a country performer for years, including several times with her dad. George Jones is survived by Nancy Jones, his wife for 30 years, his sister and several offspring. Country music has lost one of its biggest legend’s.

Come August, ‘Hell on Wheels’ will have a new home on AMC with its move to Saturday nights. While the series has been a big success on Sunday nights, AMC is looking to take advantage of Saturday night after a long successful day of showing classic western movies. AMC continues to hit home runs with their incredible run of popular drama series like ‘Walking Dead’, ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Breaking Bad.’ The hits just keep on coming.

Charlie Collier, who is the president and general manager of AMC, said that “a new episode of “Hell on Wheels’ on Saturday night after a full day of western fan favorites is going to be like a saddle on top of the horse.” He went onto claim that “this is a programmer’s dream – to have a genre specific, 14 hour lead-in to one of your highest rated originals. We are so excited about this opportunity to entertain AMC’s audience in a new way.”

During its second season, ‘Hell on Wheels’ brought in a very respectable 2.4 million viewers. Many people think there will be a major drop-off with the move, but AMC doesn’t agree. They think their viewership will grow because of the trend on Saturdays. AMC has been going western for a long time now and it seems like that trend is here to stay. The station will also be playing re-runs of Clint Eastwood’s old series ‘Rawhide’, on the weekends along with the ‘Rifleman’. AMC continues to bring top-flight entertainment to television viewers.   

The ‘Weather Underground’ was a group of activists that pushed society’s limits with their protests, dissension and later violent acts which included robberies and bombings. Their methods started out as pure, but turned to confusion and misunderstanding. They remain one of the most controversial and secretive groups in history and many went into hiding for years. They are loved by some and hated by others. The ‘Weather Underground’ started out as a great thing for a changing America, but some members lost their way and went down the wrong path.

Robert Redford plays a member of the group, Jim Grant, who has been in hiding for over thirty years, while being hunted by the FBI for a bank robbery in Michigan, where a bank security guard was killed. After another member of the group Sharon Solarz, who is played by Susan Sarandon, is captured by authorities, a reporter named Ben Shepard, played by Shia LaBeouf, gets into the mix to catch up with Robert Redford’s character. The chase begins with a lot of cat and mouse deception. The movie also stars Julie Christie, Terrence Howard, Richard Jenkins, Nick Nolte, Chris Cooper and Sam Elliot. Once again Robert Redford takes on a touchy subject and does his best to come out on top.

The one Democrat is Bob Beckel, who roasted CBS for their show ‘Amazing Race’ which aired a scene of an American B-52 bomber that was shot down in Vietnam and the wreckage is a memorial in downtown Hanoi. Beckel shouted that “there are 850,000 American Vietnam veterans alive today, and you owe them an amazing, big apology.” He went on to ask “do you realize CBS there were four Americans that went down with that plane?” and added that “two of them died.”

The Vietnam War was not very popular with the people and many protested against it, including Bob Beckel who fights against a stacked deck everyday on “The Five.” He and Juan Williams are the only two Democrats allowed on the show, but not at the same time. They take massive abuse night after night and almost always wind up on the short end of the microphone. Bob Beckel does his best to stand up for liberal causes on a very conservative news channel. It would be justice if he would call out Fox News for their insane rhetoric every day, but I guess you can’t bite the hand that feeds you.

‘Monday Mornings’ has a great cast that includes top trauma chief Ving Rhames, Chief of Staff Alfred Molina, transplant chief Bill Irwin, cardiothoracic surgeon Sarayu Rao, neurosurgeons Jamie Finnigan, Jamie Bamber and the very entertaining Keong Sim. When Alfred Molina holds court on Monday morning staff meetings, you don’t want to be his target. Not only are you fair game from all doctors but the heat is intense and can get very personal.

The very popular Ving Rhames plays a top trauma surgeon who has a unique ability to diagnose patients no matter what the issue is. His no frills attitude makes you think of his Pulp Fiction days when had total control, even though he is thrown off his game from time to time. The most interesting character is played by Keong Sim, a neurosurgeon who speaks average English in very short sentences that get right to the point. His lack of language skills makes him the most honest Doctor ever seen.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who is the chief medical correspondent at CNN, wrote the book called ‘Monday Mornings’ and is an executive producer on the show. He brings first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of a hospital and the pressures that can come from it. He is paired with well-known writer and producer David E. Kelley who created such memorable series as Chicago Hope, Boston Public, Harry’s Law, The Practice and Ally McBeal. The incredible acting and intensity is sure to make ‘Monday Mornings’ a top hit for TNT.

Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed “King of the Birthers,” started on this downward spiral when he took on President Obama and his birth certificate. He lost even more credibility when he showed up on Fox News every night with his ridiculous conspiracy theories and vicious attacks on anyone that disagreed with him. Trump had so much going for him before he became a ‘Carnival Barker’ for the Republican Party. His ego and loud mouth have finally betrayed him.

The show started out with so much potential and a lot of popular stars. The list includes Dee Snyder, Penn Jillette, Gary Busey, Dennis Rodman, Trace Adkins, Omarosa, Stephen Baldwin, Marilu Henner, LaToya Jackson, Lil Jon, Claudia Jordan, Lisa Rinna, Brande Roderick and the newly fired Brett Michaels, who was shocked over the incident and thought it was a joke. This All-Star edition of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ has taken on the appearance of a set-up and the books are cooked. No one has done more to ruin the credibility and popularity of a hit T.V. show like Donald Trump.

This is one of the most hotly contested Oscar Awards in a long time. There are nine movies in the hunt for Best Picture with the favorites being Lincoln, Argo and Silver Linings Playbook. Best Actor is another tightly contested category where all five could win the Oscar. Bradley Cooper and Hugh Jackman are chasing the front runner Daniel Day-Lewis.

Best Actress has five very talented ladies in the hunt without a clear favorite. Best Director should come down to David O. Russell for Silver Linings Playbook and Lincoln’s Steven Spielberg, but Ang Lee could shock everyone. The field is loaded in the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories. This could be a year of many surprising winners.

The winners will get a lot more than an Oscar for their performances. Winning Best Actress can boost a movie’s gross $2.3 million. Best Actor will only boost revenue around $1 million but Best Director has been known to bump up the revenue over $11 million. So a great performance can pay off more ways than one.

From the Red Carpet to the presentation of the Oscars, tonight’s show promises to entertain the masses. It’s the biggest night in show business and millions will be tuned in to watch their favorite stars. Only time will tell who has the “Right Stuff.”

Both of Oscar Pistorius’ legs were amputated at the knee when he was an infant. He beat all the odds when he became one of the fastest sprinters in South Africa. He had earned the nickname “Blade Runner” because he ran on two carbon-fiber blades that helped him soar like the wind. Pistorius, 26, was a Paralympic champion who beat out fellow competitors to join his country’s Olympic team.

In the 2012 London Olympic Games, Oscar Pistorius reached the 400-meter semifinals and also competed strongly in the 4X400 relay. He became on the most popular icons in the sport as well as universally. He was taken to Pretoria jail by police and will have a bail hearing on Friday. Authorities have said that “they plan to oppose bail in the case.”

Oscar’s father, Henry Pistorius, said during a telephone interview that “I wasn’t there; I have too much respect for Oscar to speculate. I have no clue what happened. The only person who can make any statement will be Oscar himself.” When asked if his sons relationship with the former model had been troubled, he said “not as far as I know” and added that his son “had been in an excellent frame of mind,” while training for this year’s track season.

Jacintha Saldanha, was a 46 year old nurse that worked at King Edward VII Hospital, where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for pregnancy sickness. The two DJ’s posed as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and thought their bad accents would easily be discovered in the process. They were put through to the Duchess’s ward, by nurse Saldanha, and even given details about her physical condition.

On Friday, Jacintha Saldanha was found dead from an apparent suicide which has shocked everyone involved. The Australian DJ’s have been heartbroken and say that their cancelled show is the least of their worries. They continue to reach out to nurse Saldanha’s family while offering their complete remorse.

Mel Greig said Monday on “Today Tonight” that “there is nothing that can make me feel worse that what I feel right now.” Shock Jocks have been dominating the air waves now for years, but senseless tragedies can have several different causes. The death of Jacintha Saldahna will be discussed for months and the facts are going to come out about the reasons for her apparent suicide. Hopefully everyone will be a little more sympathetic in the future.

Russell Means was a man who stood up for what he believed in and was very critical of the mainstream media and their motives. He was once the leader of the American Indian Movement but refused almost every interview and often blasted journalists for following him to public appearances. He denied that his group was responsible for violence during the 71-day siege of Wounded Knee, where they battled federal officers.

While acting in several movies, he was best known for his role in “The Last of the Mohicans” alongside Daniel Day-Lewis. He also tried to run for the Libertarian nomination for president, but was beat out by Ron Paul in 1988. Means remained proud of his efforts to change the perceptions of Indians in the public eye. He felt that his most important contribution was his founding of the Republic of Lakota, with the “re-establishment of our freedom to be responsible” as a sovereign nation, which remains inside the borders of the U.S.

Russell Means was diagnosed with esophageal cancer back in 2011, and underwent therapy by both conventional medical practices and Native American methods. He passed away only a few weeks shy of turning 73. He will be missed by millions who respected him for standing up for the injustices in America and around the world.
