Grover Norquist Loses Grip On Republican Party

The days of massive power and influence may be coming to an end for Grover Norquist, one of the most notorious Republicans in Washington. To the GOP he is a legend, to Democrats he is anti-American. He has been able to control just about every elected member of the GOP since he founded the Americans for Tax Reform in 1985, at the request of Ronald Reagan. Grover Norquist has been the most effective anti-tax leader in modern history, a fact that Democrats are hoping to end.

As soon as Speaker of the House John Boehner announced that revenues were on the table in the upcoming fiscal cliff talks, Grover Norquist went to work trying to discourage GOP representatives from playing ball on raising taxes while reminding them of the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge” that most of them signed, to never raise taxes on anybody, no exceptions. That reign of Grover’s power is dwindling while Speaker Boehner is negotiating tax increases that the American people demand.

Grover Norquist still has many avenues of power such as serving on the board of directors of the National Rifle Association, the Center for the National Interest, the Parental Rights Organization, the Executive Director of the college Republicans and the Executive Director of the National Taxpayers’ Union. But when elected Republicans disregard his “Tax Pledge,” his power will shrink overnight and the Democrats will look to bury his reign of terror in Washington.

Leading Democrats have done an excellent job of demeaning Grover Norquist and calling out the big wigs of the GOP for being controlled and kowtowing to the anti-tax king. When the GOP finally gives in to much needed revenue, Grover Norquist will see most of his power go down the drain. The Democrats have their own pledge, which is to get rid of Grover.
