Newt Gingrich On Top In GOP Race
There is less than a month to go before the Iowa caucus begins and we have seen many GOP candidates take the lead in the polls. They have not lasted long on top of the field. Newt Gingrich gets his turn to try and stay the course.
First it was Mitt Romney, who continues to be in the 20 percent range but has never made a big jump. Next Rick Perry soared to the top spot before tumbling rapidly after a few terrible debates. Then Herman Cain bolted to the top before crashing and burning after several accusations of sexual harassment and a long-term affair. Now it is Newt Gingrich turn to be on top of all the polls, but can he last.
Newt Gingrich has been the most impressive in the debates and is very fortunate that the support for Mitt Romney has not increased. The majority of GOP voters will not support Romney because they don’t believe he is a true conservative. Time is running out on Mitt to make his case and slow down the former Speaker’s momentum.
Newt is becoming very popular among the conservative base by continually expressing the fact that he is the one to take on President Obama. People in the GOP are worried that Newt’s past could be a problem in the general election. His trouble marriages and adultery could be a factor. His past ethics violations that forced him to resign from Congress will have to be addressed at some point. Newt was a lobbyist for the housing giant Freddie Mac and earned close to 2 million dollars representing them.
It will be interesting to see if Newt Gingrich can hold onto the momentum that his campaign has created throughout the caucuses. It will be a fight to the finish.
