President Obama Declares Executive Privilege On DOJ Documents

The President has put his foot down and exercised his executive privilege over documents involving the operation known as Fast and Furious. This decision should have an impact on contempt proceedings that were set to take place today on Eric Holder, the Attorney General of the United States.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R), who is Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, says that they will go ahead with contempt proceedings despite the President’s decision. AG Eric Holder has tried to work out the disagreements between his office and the committee, but to no avail.

Republicans have been very vocal about the President exerting his power into the situation and are screaming of a cover-up. Democrats are blasting the GOP members on the committee, especially Darrell Issa, for what they claim is a witch hunt, and nothing more than political nonsense.

Executive privilege has been used 24 times since Ronald Reagan was in charge back in the eighties. Bill Clinton used it 14 times and George W. Bush did it 6 times. Democrats are accusing Rep. Issa of a personal vendetta against the Attorney General. The Republican Chairman has had his own problems with the law over the years.

The divide in Washington seems to get bigger every day. Republicans and Democrats continue to demonize each other and refuse to work together. With a big election coming up everything seems to be political. The GOP continues to be hypocritical when it comes to blaming the Democrats. People are getting sick of both parties.
